Pampus, visit in bad weather

In bad weather Pampus is also a great day out. The ferry boat to the island is partially covered and the fortress inside is also covered. The fortress is not heated so warm clothing is advised.

By wind force 7 bft. and over, the ferry to Pampus is not permitted to sail. We publish the warnings on our website, Facebook and Twitter. Because weather conditions can change quickly we advise you to keep checking up on our website or social media. Should the ferry service be cancelled, then with your tickets you can re-schedule your trip, subject to availability. Monies not refundable.

Pampus Tips

Because the floors in the old fort can be uneven and in some places floor gratings are used, it is not advised to wear shoes with narrow or high heels. During spring and autumn, as there is no heating, it can be cold on the island and inside the fort, warm clothing is highly recommended.

Pampus and small children

Pampus is an island totally surrounded by water. It is not advised to visit the fort with pushchairs or buggies as there are no facilities available.

Pampus and Invalid access

The fort is not equipped for access for invalid carriages, wheelchairs and walking frames. Access to the boat and the fort is by stairs. In the fort there are uneven floors and steps, some of which are difficult to see clearly although there are warnings in those areas to the visitors. Be careful. There are no lifts in the fort.

Consumption of your own food and drinks is forbidden.

No Pets allowed, except help dogs.

Visiting the fort and use of the wardrobe and facilities is at your own risk.

Keep the island tidy, there are waste bins overall.

No Smoking inside the fort.

Please treat the fort and its facilities with respect. Pampus is a National Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Pampus is an island

Everything has to be brought by boat to the island and the waste taken away by boat. Keeping the island clean and tidy is an important and time consuming task. Please help by using the waste bins provided.
